Gloria is known as a tireless “behind-the-scenes” worker
Gloria Rodgers is very active on Summit County Council. In addition to important Council Committees, Gloria serves on the Opiate Task Force – a group that is committed to reducing the tragic consequences of opiate abuse in Summit County through education, collaboration and the wise use of available resources.
She is also a member of the Child Fatality Review Board of Summit County. Gloria’s nursing background has served her well for many of these assignments and also as a member of the Fetal Infant Mortality Rate (FIMR) Case Review Team.
At the State level, Gloria serves as the Chairman of the Metropolitan & Regional Affairs Committee of the County Commissioner’s Association of Ohio (CCAO). This committee sends it’s priorities on to the state legislators, lobbying for new laws or changes in current laws. Some issues this year include racism as a public-health crisis, access to healthy food/food deserts, public transit, child care, indigent defense and lead abatement.
Gloria serves on the Ohio Jail Advisory Board and on a sub-committee addressing medical treatment in jails. She is also serving on a committee for The Ohio Municipal League addressing racism.
On Council, Gloria serves on the following committees: Health and Human Services, Long Term Planning, Personnel and Intergovernmental, and the Rules Committee.
This year, the big focus has been using the CARES Fund to develop grants that address the needs of businesses, nonprofits, schools, Akron Canton Airport, and many others, including meeting the needs of residents for rent payments, utilities, etc.
Gloria brings compassion, dedication and common sense to every task she undertakes, every committee she serves on, and every issue that affects her constituents. You won’t find a more tireless official watching out for the good of the community.
